Vocabulary Log Requirements (20-Words)

1- Assassination (noun): the killing of somebody, murder. After the assassination of the president, the army took control of the country.

2- Regret (verb): feel sorry for something. Don’t you regret leaving before the end of the course.


3- Initial (adjective): coming at start. There is an initial training period before you start work.

4- Extremely (adverb): very. He was extremely disappointed at not receiving first prize.

5- Afford (verb): be able to buy something. I can’t afford to buy a new car.

6- Secret (noun): not widely known. She didn’t feel she could trust him to keep a secret.

7- Popular (adjective): famous. English heads the list of the most popular foreign languages taught in this country.

8- Awful (adjective): extremely bad. I’m sure I made an awful lot of mistakes in the test.

9- Exhibition (noun): public display of works of art. If you’ve got a student card you can get into the exhibition free of charge.

10- Narrow (adjective):small in width. It’s hard to find a belt that’s narrow enough to fit my watch.

11- Persuade (transitive verb): get somebody to do something. He has been trying to persuade his father to buy him a bicycle.

12- Delicious (adjective): good to eat. She made a delicious pudding consisting of apricots and cream.

13- Contain (transitive verb): have something within. How much water does that tank contain?

14- Public (adjective): concerning all the people. ‘Can you ride a horse along a public footbath?’ ‘No, it’s forbidden.’

16- Hostage (noun): captive. The hijackers took seven hostages before releasing the rest of the passengers.

17- crime (noun): illegal act. The judge gave him a four-year prison sentence for his crime.

18- Admit (verb ): own up to doing something. When I questioned him, he finally admitted stealing my pen.

19- Manage (verb): administer or run something. I managed to open the tin.

20- Responsible (adjective): answerable to somebody. Each student must be responsible for his or her own belongings.
